INDIAN RIVER LAGOON ENVIROTHON
 
 

REGIONAL CONTEST RULES

1. Students in public and/or private schools in grades 6 through 12 are eligible to compete in the Indian River Lagoon Envirothon, a multi-district competition for students in schools in Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee, St. Lucie and Brevard Counties.

 

2. Middle school students in grades 6-8 are welcome to participate and compete for prizes. They DO NOT compete in the Current Issue category and cannot represent their County at the State ENVIROTHON. Separate awards will be given to the middle school winners.

 

3. Each participating team will consist of five student members from the same school.

 

4. More than one team may enter from each school, but due to space restrictions each high school will be limited to field only 5 teams on a first cone first served basis. Each middle school will be limited to 2 teams.

 

5. There is a $ 1 dollar registration fee per team up to and on the final registration date. A late fee of $ 20 will be charged for each team registering after the due date.

 

6. A team must be supervised by an adult team advisor. A team advisor may supervise more than one team from the same school.

 

7. During the competition, volunteers will be asked to escort one or more teams to the testing stations. Advisors shall not assist any teams in actual competition.

 

8. Team advisors will be responsible to ensure that team members display proper conduct during the ENVIROTHON and at the host facility.

 

9. Tobacco, drugs, alcohol or weapons of any kind are NOT permitted at the competition site or during any part of the competition.

 

10. All team members must wear the Indian River Lagoon ENVIROTHON T-shirt provided. No school identification will be permitted. Jackets or raincoats may be worn over the T-shirt if necessary.

 

11. Transportation to the competition site will be the responsibility of the participants.

 

12. the competition is conducted by the Board of Directors, Indian River Lagoon Envirothon, Inc.

 

13. Clipboards and pencils will be provided for the teams.

 

14. During testing periods, teams must remain at their testing station area. No movement to other areas is permitted.

 

15. Conversation with advisors or other teams is not permitted during testing periods.

 

16. No resource materials will be allowed at test sites.

 

17. Test problems will be devised by natural resource experts from each category at 5 testing stations. Station #6 will have a panel of judges to evaluate each team's "Current Environmental Issue" presentation.

 

18. Judges' decisions are final on all event scoring.

 

19. Tie breaker--if the test questions and tie breaker question results produce a tie, there will be an oral test given to the tied teams. Each team will present their answer at the same time. Teams will be eliminated when they respond incorrectly until one team survives.

 

20. Rules of the Indian River Lagoon Envirothon will conform to rules of the Florida Envirothon and are subject to change. Any changes will be explained in advance to all teams and advisors.

 

21. Any violation of these rules and regulations is subject to discussion by the Board and could lead to disqualification of a team or teams.

 

22. No electronic devices will be allowed during testing. That includes, but is not limited to ipods, cell phones, headphones and calculators.
